Day 1:  Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Hongqiao Market, Tian'anmen Square

Services Included:  Depending on the number of passengers, the price of the tour includes an air-conditioned car, bus, or van. It also includes a private, English-speaking tour guide, all entrance fees, and 5 lunches and 1 dinner at authentic Chinese restaurants that locals frequent. It does not include tips for the tour guide or the driver. We recommend that you tip each of them $5 USD per day. The price of the tour does not include hotel accommodations. If you wish, we can book hotels for you in Beijing and Chengde. In Chengde, we recommend the Yunshan Hotel or the Tianbao Hotel, both 4-Star hotels. We can book either hotel for 400 CYN/59 USD.

Day 1:  After breakfast at your Beijing hotel, we drive to Chengde. We first eat lunch at a local restaurant, then head to Putuozongcheng Temple, often called the Little Potala Palace. Our second stop for the afternoon is Puning Temple, Temple of Universal Tranquility. We finish our day at a local Chinese restaurant.

Tour Details:

Built in 1775, by the very religious Emperor Qianlong, the Putuozongcheng Temple is the largest of the eight surviving temples in the hills north of the Imperial complex. Modeled after the Potala Palace in Lhasa, it is often referred to as the Little Potala. The temple is an amazing sight on a clear day, its red walls in sharp contrast against its mountain backdrop.

Puning Si, Chengde's only active temple, was built in 1775 in anticipation of Emperor's Qianlong's victory over the western Mongol tribes. It was modeled after the earliest of Tibetan Monastery, Samye. The highlight of Puning Si is the astounding, golden 75 foot tall, 42 armed wooden carving of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, found in the huge Mahayana Hall in the rear of the complex.

Day 2:  After breakfast at your hotel, we will tour Bishu Shanzhuang, the Imperial Summer Resort. We will then eat lunch at a local Chinese restaurant, before driving back to your hotel in Beijing.

With its beautiful setting in a pine woods, Bishu Shanzhuang, the imperial retreat of the emperors, is the perfect place to take a leisurely stroll, while enjoying the atmosphere of their summer home. With grounds twice the size of the Summer Palace in Beijing, containing simple but elegant buildings, regal gardens, and peaceful walking paths; there is much to enjoy here.
